Government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports has launched the Youth Innovation Fund (YIF), a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering young Malawians economically.
The initiative, which is being implemented by the National Youth Council Of Malawi (NYCOM) is targeting youths aged 10-35.
Among others, the fund seeks to drive innovation and job creation.
NYCOM executive director Rex Chapota has indicated that the fund also seeks to drive economic transformation in agriculture, tourism and manufacturing.
“The YIF is there to offer financial support, mentorship and incubation services for youth-led ideas and enterprises at all stages,” he said.
Chapota said Malawian youths with innovative ideas concerning agriculture, tourism, mining, manufacturing or related sectors are being encouraged to apply.
“This fund is ready to support ideas from early-stage prototypes to growth-ready businesses,” said Chapota.
NYCOM has since implored eligible youths to apply and benefit from the fund.
“At the end of the day, it is our wish to see applications from youths who are ready to grow economically and create job opportunities for others,” he added.
Lilongwe-based entrepreneur-cum-organic farmer, Maloto Chimkombero has expressed excitement with the initiative, calling it timely.
“I urge my fellow youths to apply and see what destiny holds for them,” said Chimkombero.
Those, who wish to apply, are being advised to seek guidance from NYCOM by visiting its offices in Lilongwe.
