One of the most all-time football personalities Yasin Osman died on Monday at Blantyre Adventist Hospital.
The flamboyant and charismatic personality, whose last port of call was Technical Director of his boyhood club, Mighty Mukulu Wanderers, was a Jack-of-trade in football.
Osman, who was popularly and recognisably well known by his first name, is regarded as one of the best players in Malawi. He went on to coach and became an administrator at the Football Association of Malawi on several occasions.
Several organisations and individuals mourned his untimely passing age 75 years old, saying he was a true servant of the game.
Reads a statement from Wanderers: “Mighty Wanderers Ltd deeply regrets to announce the sudden passing of its Technical Director Mr Yasin Osman, who died on Monday, 21st April 2025 at Blantyre Adventist Hospital.
“Mr Osman was a dedicated and passionate member of our technical team whose contributions to the club were invaluable. His commitment, his professionalism and love for the game left a lasting impact on the team and the entire Wanderers family.”
Football Association of Malawi, where Yasin had worked as general secretary technical director as well as Malawi National Football Team coach also mourned the legend.
Reads a statement from FAM President Fleetwood Haiya: “At the news of the passing of a great sportsman, a football enthusiast, coach and role model, I would like to convey deep and sincere condolences to the family of Mr Yasin ‘Teach’ Osman, Mighty Wanderers FC and the whole football community.
“Among the pioneers of our football, Mr Osman’s footprint has remained relevant for generations. First as a flamboyant player for both Wanderers, Bullets and the national team to a revered coach and football analyst. We have lost a great son of the soil, who commanded respect and inspired confidence across the game’s divide.
“His contribution to the country’s football development will remain etched in our hall of fame. The foundations that Mr Osman laid will forever be in place and rekindle hope and development of our game.
Rest In Peace Legend.”
Former FAM Club Licencing and Compliance Manager Casper Jangale now based in UK said he was the administrator at the association in his over 20 years of service.
“Yasin Njinga Teach Osman. The best General Secretary of FAM I worked under. He introduced me to football administration and built something in me which I will forever cherish. He was a man and half and my heart breeds. A true son of the game,” he said.
Yasin is survived by wife and two children and will be laid to rest in his home village in Balaka.
