Four four female entrepreneurs have teamed up to form a soap-making business which is steadily changing their lives economically.
The four, Agnes Bamusi, Chimwemwe Goliati, Esther Maunde and Lisse Chiwale produce tablet soap trading under the brand “Thandizo soap”.
Chairperson of the group, Agnes Bamusi said in an interview, the group started producing the soap in 2023 after a careful market research.
“We opted for soap production because we have the skills and of course we knew that the area we are living in Traditional Authority Kapeni in Blantyre, has a potential market,” said Bamusi.
She said the soap making process involves careful mixing of delicate raw materials such as Soda ash, Fatty Acids, Sodium Bicarbonate, Colourants and Brighteners.
“I can’t reveal the details in their totality as there is trade secrets to consider, but these are the steps we follow to produce this product,” said Bamusi.
The business is now paying off as the group is now generating an average profit of K300,000 per production cycle.
“With this business, we are now able to send our children to school as well as improving our well-being,” she added.
Meanwhile, Bamusi has indicated that the group hopes to scale up production to meet rising demand on the market.
The group is also on the verge of acquiring precertification from the Malawi Bureau of Standards.
Charity Bonongwe, leader of Lilongwe Female Business Operators has hailed the grouping, calling their venture “visionary”.
“We are proud of what they are doing and we wish them well,” said Bonongwe.
