A group of youths known as Young Life Malawi distributed items to vulnerable people under their programme known as Campaigners Day Service.
The event was organised by Smith Isaac Kanyemba, the Area Director for Young Life Malawi in the district and provided much-needed support to the elderly, disabled and patients in the area.
The day’s activities began at Kansonga Health Centre, where the youth group performed general cleaning duties and interacted with patients.
Among the recipients was Naomi Chikwakwa, a patient at the center, who was deeply moved by the gesture. Naomi, who had been feeling discouraged due to her illness.
“I didn’t expect this. I am so happy to receive such help. Thank you to these young people for their kindness,” she said, visibly grateful.
The group then travelled to Chikwakwa Village in Traditional Authority Nsauka, where they visited elderly and disabled community members, distributing essential items like sugar, surf, salt and soap tablets.
The group had pooled together K250,000 from their own savings to purchase these goods, demonstrating their commitment to helping those in need.
Each recipient received a care package containing 1kg of salt, two tablets of soap, surf and sugar.
This small but significant contribution brought smiles to many faces and provided relief to those who are often overlooked.
Mary Chikwakwa, a local guardian, encouraged the youth to continue their good work.
“What they’ve done today is incredible. This is just the beginning. They should keep helping others in need,” she said.
Innocent Mshonga, Officer-in-Charge at Kansonga Health Centre, praised the youth’s effort, noting the importance of supporting patients.
“Many of our patients here struggle with the lack of basic necessities. What these young people have done is commendable, and I hope it inspires others to follow their example. Youth clubs like these help keep young people focused on positive activities and away from negative influences.”
This Campaigners Day Service initiative highlights how youth can play a vital role in community development, teaching the importance of compassion, service, and responsibility.
Through their efforts, Young Life Malawi continues to inspire and create a ripple effect of change in the lives of those who need it most.
