Save the Children has stepped up efforts to strengthen disaster response capabilities.
The organisation has provided essential relief supplies worth over K160 million to the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DODMA), aiming to support over 10,000 households affected by climate shocks.
According to Save the Children’s Director of Programs, Operations, Partnerships and Award Management, Chakufwa Munthali, the intervention will enhance preparedness and ensure timely assistance to vulnerable communities. The supplies include blankets, soap, buckets, and sanitary pads.
Director of Preparedness and Response at DODMA, Moses Chimphepo, commended Save the Children for the initiative, emphasising the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing the country’s disaster challenges.
“This will go a long way in complementing the government’s efforts to assist those affected by climate-induced shocks. We urge more organisations to take similar action,” he said.
The intervention comes at a crucial time, following the devastation caused by Cyclone Jude, which displaced 4,883 people in the month of March.
With climate shocks continuing to leave many Malawians in urgent need of assistance, efforts like these play a critical role in building resilience and ensuring that affected families receive the support they need.
