Malawi Govt In Nkhata Bay Internet Expansion Project

In a move to boost the country’s digital penetration, the Malawi Government has launched an initiative to expand internet connectivity to 18 new sites in Nkhata Bay.

The project, part of the World Bank-funded “Digital Malawi Acceleration Project”, aims to provide internet connectivity to approximately 2,500 sites across the country.

By leveraging cutting-edge technology and strategic partnerships, the government seeks to foster a digitally inclusive society where citizens can access information, services, and opportunities without geographical or socio-economic constraints.

According to Jane Kwalimba, ICT Officer in the department of E-Government, the initiative will have a profound impact on the country’s economic development.

“The expanded internet connectivity will enable local businesses to reach new customers, access new markets, and improve their competitiveness. This, in turn, will stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and increase access to digital services in Nkhata Bay,” said Kwalimba.

James Tembo, Director of Administration in Nkhata Bay District Council, echoed Kwalimba’s sentiments, saying the project has potential to improve internet connectivity.

“The increased internet connectivity will be a game-changer for our local economy. We are excited to see the impact it will have on our businesses, residents, and the overall development of our district,” said Tembo

According to Kwalimba the project’s benefits extend beyond economic growth as it also promises to improve access to education and healthcare services in Nkhata Bay.

Residents will be able to access online educational resources, consult with healthcare professionals remotely and access government services online, thereby enhancing their overall quality of life.
