In boosting healthcare access, the people of Machinjiri and surrounding areas now have easy access to medical services with the opening of the newly constructed Chipande Health Centre.
This facility, built by Akonda Ministries International with the help of a generous well-wisher, will serve over 18,000 people in remote areas of Blantyre and beyond.
“For many years, people in this area have faced critical challenges due to the distance they had to cover to get medical help. Expectant mothers and the elderly, in particular, suffered the most.
“Now with this health centre in place, we have reduced that burden and made healthcare accessible to all,” said Klaus Chikufenji, the Country Director of Akonda Ministries International.
Prior to the health centre’s construction, residents from areas such as Nkhalamba, Masaka and Wright had to travel for hours to reach the nearest healthcare facilities.
The opening of Chipande Health Centre has brought a much-needed solution, significantly improving healthcare access for people who were previously underserved.
Deputy Minister of Health, Noah Chimpeni, commended Akonda Ministries International for their commitment to improving healthcare in rural communities.
He said: “This facility is a true reflection of the government’s efforts to ensure that all Malawians, regardless of where they live, have access to essential health services.
“We are grateful to Akonda Ministries for their support, and we believe that this health centre will go a long way in improving the health outcomes of the people in this area.”
The K450 million health centre will provide a wide range of healthcare services, including maternal and child health, emergency care and general medical treatment.
