A newly constructed K146 million Mlare Maternity Wing in Karonga district is set to change healthcare services in the area, thanks to the completion of the project.
The modern facility, constructed with Governance to Enable Service Delivery (GESD) funds, boasts modern infrastructure and equipment, providing a safe and conducive environment for pregnant women to receive quality healthcare services.
Deputy Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture, Joyce Chitsulo, who inspected the facility, commended the contractors for their workmanship and timely completion of the project.
“The Mlare Maternity Wing is a testament to the government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure in Malawi,” said Chitsulo.
She said the construction of the maternity wing is a significant achievement in the development of healthcare infrastructure in Malawi.
According to Chitsulo, the government is committed to providing quality healthcare services to all Malawians, regardless of their geographical location.
“The construction of the Mlare Maternity Wing is a step towards achieving this goal,” she added.
Director of Health Services and Social Welfare for Karonga, David Sibale, said the new facility will help reduce maternal mortality rates by providing accessible healthcare services to pregnant women, who previously had to travel long distances to access such services.
“The construction of the Mlare Maternity Wing is a significant milestone in our efforts to improve healthcare services in Karonga,” said Sibale.
The Mlare Maternity Wing is equipped with modern medical equipment and trained healthcare professionals.
The facility is expected to provide a range of healthcare services, including prenatal care, delivery services and postnatal care.
