The Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) says all is set for the Association of National Olympic committees of Africa (ANOCA) Zone Six general Assembly to be held from 21 to 23 February 2025 in Salima.
MOC vice-secretary general, who is also the local organising committee chairperson Dennis Kumwenda, said the conference will attract over 35 delegates from Malawi, Lesotho, Zambia, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, E-swatini and Angola, with participants expected to elect new committee.
However, Kumwenda said that the organisation aims at supporting National Olympic Committees on athletes and sports development including solidarity activities that demonstrate Olympic values.
The event plays a crucial role in setting the stage for a more dynamic financial future as it will, among others, boost sports tourism as well as regional and global visibility.
Kumwenda expressed gratitude for the donations received from partners towards the event.
“We appreciate the support and are ready to host all 10 southern African countries,” he said.
Kumwenda also revealed that Malawi will vie for the presidency or secretary general position at the ANOCA Zone Six General Assembly.
The host committee is urging corporate entities to support the event.
To achieve this, the organisers estimate that approximately K25 million in funding is required to host the conference.
