A local organisation, under the banner ‘Action Hope Malawi’ has embarked on climate-smart agriculture project to boost yields and enhance food security while mitigating the effects of climate change.
The initiative offers an opportunity to local farmers in Zomba to benefit from agricultural services such as mechanisation, input distribution, fertiliser and seeds, training on best agricultural practices and enhanced market opportunities.
Action Hope Malawi Executive Director Sammy Aaron told ProjectM that his organisation is amplifying a three-year project which will be implemented in Traditional Authorities Mlumbe, Chikowi and Mbiza in Zomba district.
“The Climate Smart Agriculture initiative tackles the interconnected issues of food security, climate change mitigation, and adaptation.
“These resources will enhance farming efficiency and promote sustainable agricultural practices in the district,” said Aaron.
By strengthening the innovative smart agriculture project, they aim to empower farmers to adapt to climate change, improve their livelihoods and increase household incomes.
To achieve climate-resilient agriculture, active participation and enthusiasm from the local community are crucial.
“This commitment will drive the adoption of innovative farming techniques and build climate resilience,” said Aaron.
Unlike traditional methods, this project, supported by IPAGE INC-USA, leverages innovation and technology to drive sustainable growth.
Meanwhile, a local farmer Zinenani Liposa from Zomba, thanked the organisation for empowering local farmers and fostering sustainable agriculture in the district.
Liposa has said that the organisation’s commitment to community resilience and food security will help farmers shape the country’s agricultural industry.
Climate smart agriculture (CSA), which focus on enhancing productivity, building resilience and reducing emissions, is a aimed at transforming agricultural systems to address climate change.
