Beit Cure International recently hosted a memorable event called Night to Shine, celebrating children with disabilities at the Golden Peacock.
The event aimed to promote inclusivity and challenge societal norms that often marginalize individuals with disabilities.
Speaking at the event, Director General for the Malawi Council for Disability Affairs (MACODA), George Chiusiwa, emphasized the importance of embracing human diversity.
“Celebrate our differences, irrespective of one having a disability. We can be different in terms of physical features, but we need to remember that we are equals in God’s eyes,” he said.
Chiusiwa also urged everyone to take responsibility for supporting children with disabilities and helping them realize their full potential.
“We need to create an environment where everyone feels valued and supported,” he added.
Dr Rhoda Kriek, Executive Director for Beit Cure International, echoed Chiusiwa’s sentiments, stressing the need to avoid discrimination against children with disabilities.
“Disability is not inability. Don’t discriminate, divide, or stigmatize them, but instead, show them love and make them feel valued,” she said.
One of the beneficiaries, Sarafina Thomson, expressed her gratitude to Beit Cure International for the support and free services they provide.
Night to Shine is part of a global movement started by Tim Tebow, an American former footballer. The event aims to share the love of God with people living with disabilities, celebrating their worth and value.
