Film Body Elects New Executive Committee

The Film Association of Malawi (FAMA) has ushered in leadership following the conclusion of its 2025 elections held at the Golden Peacock Hotel in Lilongwe.

The highly anticipated event drew significant participation from members eager to shape the future of the country’s film industry.

Dorothy Kingston, a marketer and social media influencer was elected President after flooring seasoned actress and filmaker Flora Suya.

Gilbert Moyo took up the position of Vice-President, Ignatius Kaphinde secured the post of Secretary, with Charles Levison taking up the role of Vice-Secretary. Daud Shaib retained the Treasurer position while Catherine Kawawa was elected Vice-Treasurer.

The election also saw the selection of four committee members to support the executive team, namely Chembe Chekezo Karonga, Nelia Chikhosi, Daniel Quinn and Desire Namachotsa.

In her acceptance speech, Kingston expressed gratitude, emphasising the importance of teamwork, innovation and building a strong platform for the country’s filmmakers.

The new leadership has been tasked with steering FAMA towards growth and development, fostering collaboration among members and promoting Malawian films on both local and international stages.

Members have expressed optimism, anticipating a transformative year under the guidance of the newly elected leaders.
