The National Economic Empowerment Fund Limited (NEEF) has revealed plans to reach out to over 400,000 farmers with loan fertilizers during the 2024/2025 farming season to ensure food security among households in the country.
NEEF Board Chairperson Jephta Mtema said this in Dowa recently during the launch of the fertiliser loan distribution exercise to small holder farmers in the district.
Mtema said the facility is part of government’s effort to support agricultural production in the country.
He said: “This will become an innovative solution for achieving sustainable farming and ensuring surplus availability of farm produce for public use and consumption.
“With our customised loan solutions, farmers can now access easy credit to meet their agricultural needs to improve their livelihoods.”
Minister of information Moses Kunkuyu highlighted the significance of the loan in helping local farmers to become food secure and improve their economic status.
‘’We are proud to support the initiative that empowers local farmers and foster food security in the country. In essence, this new initiative would ease their financial burdens and improve production,’’ said Kunkuyu.
Meanwhile, the state owned loan service provider has set aside K150 billion to be disbursed to local farmers in the country looking for access to affordable loans to help them in the 2024/2025 farming season.
