Youth Council Unveils K100m Youth Agricultural Grant

The National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) has launched a youth agricultural cooperative initiative worth K100 million tailored to help young entrepreneurs in the country to engage in agriculture to improve their livelihoods.

NYCOM Executive Director, Rex Chapola has said that the grant, among others, will help challenges the youths are facing today such as unemployment, poverty, limited access to agricultural markets.

The grant, which is a government initiative, is earmarked to benefit about 18 youth cooperatives across the country.

Chapola emphasised that the projects holistic approach focuses on enhancing access to financial resources, skills development, capacity building and driving economic growth.

Malawi’s finance minister, Simplex Chithyola Banda said “the initiative is a testament to the government of Malawi’s unwavering commitment to empowering the youth by fostering financial inclusion, equipping them with tools to thrive in today’s economy, thereby advancing Malawi 2063’s vision for sustainable development goals.”

Chithyola Banda said it is essential for Malawian youths to lead the charge towards sustainable agriculture and drive meaningful impact to become self-reliant

The initiative is expected to contribute significantly to Malawi`s vision for food security, job and wealth creation.
