From Streets to Schools: A Musical Night for Change

In a bid to rewrite the stories of children once living on the streets (Amasikini), the One Step Foundation, in partnership with Umodzi Park, is organizing a special music and comedy event.

Scheduled for December 14, 2024, at the Bingu International Convention Center (BICC) in Lilongwe, the event aims to raise funds to support the education of these resilient children rescued from the streets by the organization, and are now enrolled in schools across the country.

“These children have already come so far. They’ve left the streets and are now pursuing their education. But many lack the financial support they need, especially those in secondary school. Without our help, they might return to the streets,” said Dinna Chagunda, the Child Protection Officer at One Step Foundation.

The evening will begin with a solidarity walk from Town Hall to BICC, symbolizing the collective journey of hope and transformation.

The show will feature celebrated local artists, including Kell Kay, Ethel Kamwendo Banda, Gracian Nyambo, Capital Girl, and JK Warrior.

For these children, this isn’t just a fundraiser but rather a lifeline. It’s a chance to stay in school, dream bigger, and leave behind the struggles of their past.

As the city comes together to enjoy music and laughter, they’ll also be joining hands to give these children a brighter future.

What a better way to spend a Saturday evening through dance, laugh, whilst making a difference.
