Minister of Education, Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima has commended the Solon Foundation for constructing classroom blocks, science laboratories and teachers’ houses in several secondary schools in the Northern Education Division.
Wirima said this at Jenda Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Mzimba on Friday during the handover of teachers houses, science laboratory and classroom blocks constructed by the foundation.
“We are very grateful for the support that we get from the Solon Foundation. All the infrastructural support that they have built in various secondary schools in the Northern Region, compliments Government’s efforts to provide good learning space for our students and improve quality of services delivered which directly supports the Malawi Vision 2063.
She said: “We would like to request the Foundation to expand this project to other educational divisions in the country so that we leave no one behind per as 2063 aspirations,” she said.
The Minister appealed to the school management committee, the community and the students to take good care of the facilities to last longer.
She added that construction of new infrastructure in schools enhance teaching and learning environment.
“Hostels are equally important as they offer accommodation for students, alleviating concerns related to housing while they pursue their education,” she said.
She added that the Solon Foundation’s efforts complements Government initiatives aimed at creating a conducive learning environment for all learners.
Wirima urged the Government and its partners to invest in education.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Solon’s Foundation Executive Director Willie Dhlandhlara expressed gratitude for the good relationship with the Ministry of Education and the Foundation.
“These efforts aim to facilitate students’ access to university education by bridging previous gaps, thereby, making the learning and teaching processes more effective.
“By donating, we are investing in the development of better citizens who will emerge as future leaders,” he said.
The Director said they are concerned, therefore, it is important to provide the quality education, support and resources.
He said, so far, the institution has already invested US$1.5 million as a total cost of the infrastructural support to the secondary schools.
The minister was accompanied by Director of Administration, Steven Chikopa, Director of Secondary Education, Dr Florida Banda, Education Division Manager for the Northern Region, Jennings Kayira and other senior officials from the Ministry of Education.
