Scorchers football star Tabitha Chawinga is among two African players nominated for the 2024 FIFA Women’s Footballer of the Year award.
News about her nomination comes after she was nominated as the only Female African nominee for the prestigious Globe Soccer Awards in best player category.
For the FIFA awards, she has been nominated alongside Zambian Barbara Banda with other nominees comprising Rodman, Smith, Shaw, Gira, Horan among others across the world.
Tabitha was also nominated for the CAF Women’s Footballer of the Year Award where she was nominated alongside her sister Temwa Chawinga in Malawi.
In October, she also became the centre of attention when she was named World’s number 16 in the prestigious Ballon d’Or.
Tabitha Chawinga, the Malawian football superstar, has been making waves in the football world, she recently won the French league’s top award, the UNFP Division 1 Féminine Player of the Year award, for her outstanding performance in the 2023-2024 season.
Chawinga has had an impressive career, playing for several top-tier league clubs, including Jiangsu Suning, Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.
She has also represented the Malawi national team, serving as captain and scoring numerous goals in international competitions.
Some of her notable achievements, include the Elitettan top scorer award in 2015, the Damallsvenskan Top Scorer Award in 2017 and the Chinese Women’s Super League top scorer award in 2018 and 2019 Player of the year.
She was named Player of the Year in the Chinese Women’s Super League in 2018 and 2019 and in the UNFP Division 1 Féminine in 2023-2024.
