In Makokola Village, Mangochi, Alinafe Makwakwa has become a symbol of hope and transformation.
A graduate of Malawi Assemblies of God University (MAGU) with a Bachelor of Social Science in Early Childhood Development, Alinafe founded Nana’s Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre in November 2023 to uplift underprivileged children.
What began with just two children has grown into a thriving institution of 150 students and seven adults under the motto, “Education for All.”
The centre provides holistic education, a porridge program, and adult literacy classes that empower community members, including village leaders.
Alinafe’s work has not gone unnoticed. Her efforts have transformed lives and earned her praise from Hanna Mangani, an Early Childhood Development Coordinator, who said, “The work Alinafe is doing is exemplary. She has set a standard for true service to the community and inspires us all to support initiatives like Nana’s ECD Centre.”
Despite challenges like lack of teaching materials and porridge necessities, Alinafe remains determined. Her vision includes providing shelter for orphans and expanding the centre to meet the growing needs of the community.
Children who once struggled with basic communication now confidently converse in Chichewa and English, much to their parents’ delight.
Alinafe also highlights the importance of play materials in fostering children’s cognitive, emotional, and social development, emphasizing, “The early years of life are crucial for building foundational skills.”
Through her unwavering dedication and passion, Alinafe exemplifies the values of excellence and service fostered by MAGU.
Nana’s ECD Centre stands as a testament to what one person can achieve when driven by purpose and compassion.
