Malawi National Women’s Football team star Temwa Chawinga has dedicated the Most Valuable Player Award she won in her debut season to the team, Kansas City Current.
Writing on her Facebook Page, the forward thanked her teammates and coach.
Said Temwa: “What a journey it has been! This award is not just a personal achievement, it’s a testament to the fight and determination of our entire team. A huge thank you to my amazing teammates for pushing each other every day and for always having each other’s backs.
“To our coach, your relentless drive and strategy have shaped us into the fighters we are today. And to our doctor, thank you for keeping us healthy and ready to battle on the field.
Together, we’ve fought hard, and I’m proud to be part of this incredible team! Here’s to more victories ahead!”
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) applauded the Malawian star, saying she deserves the award after smashing a number of records in one of the world’s top women’s footballing nations.
Reads a statement: “The Scorchers forward Temwa Chawinga has been named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the National Women’s Soccer League. Temwa’s incredible season has shattered records and etched her name in history: First player to score 20 goals in a single season.
“First to score in 8 consecutive matches. First to score against all 13 active teams in a single season. First to achieve 26 goal contributions in one season. First Golden Boot and MVP winner for the KC Current franchise. Congratulations Temwa TC6 Chawinga
FAM President Fleetwood Haiya also congratulated Temwa on her achievement.
“Congratulations to Temwa TC6 Chawinga for being named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the National Women’s Soccer League in the United States of America. We are incredibly proud of you. Keep shining as you continue to put Malawi on the map,” he said.
Temwa joined KC Current from Chinese club Jiang Wuhan where she played alongside her sister Tabitha.
