Local charity organization, Foundation for Community and Capacity Development (FOCCAD) has launched a food distribution exercise in Machinga district in response to the hunger problem wreaking havoc across some districts in the country.
The organization has set aside funds in excess of millions to help distribute food to 80,368 households.
FOCCAD executive director Dan Nthara has indicated that the exercise is expected to benefit over 361,656 individuals over a period of 5 months starting from November 2024.
“This program is a testament to our commitment to improving the health and livelihoods of women and children in Malawi’s hardest-to-reach communities,” Nthara said.
In Machinga district, the organization is working with concerned stakeholders in ensuring that all hunger stricken families have been provided with food.
“We remain dedicated in ensuring that no one is left behind, especially during these critical times,” said Nthara.
Nthara has since called on community leaders across the district to work together with FOCCAD in building stronger, more resilient communities.
FOCCAD is implementing the initiative with support from the World Food Program (WFP) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
