MLELEMBA PUBLISHES NEW BOOK “AGRICULTURE 100 YEARS FROM NOW”

The combined effects of cyclones, droughts worsened by climate change have led to widespread food insecurity in Malawi.

While some adaptation efforts are imaging in this country, most are yet to gain popularity on a larger scale.

It is for this reason that Blessings Mlelemba, a Ntcheu based youth has released a book titled Agriculture 100 years from now.

Speaking with ProjectM in an interview Mlelemba said passion to eradicate effects of climate change on agriculture moved him to write the book.

“The book is addressing best; practical and less cost-effective means people can use to lessen the pressure in agriculture. There are anticipated global climate effects and it is best we start addressing these now”, he said.

“I was also moved because I wanted to come up with a resource that will highlight African agriculture especially Malawi and this is the best resource for someone looking for practical farming methods”, he said.

Mlelemba adds that the book also exposes practical ways of land restoration as the country continues to grapple with issues of land degradation.

“In the book readers will be exposed to organic fertilizers and organic pesticides which is the only hope if Malawi is to restore the lost fertility which in turn has potential for bumper yields”, he said.

“He stressed that climate smart agricultural solutions play a big role as it discourages the use of chemical products like pesticides, burning bush for land preparation which in turn affect the environment”, Mlelemba said.

The book is for any African desiring to boost his productivity as the book does not only highlight how to grow crops but also cost productions all the way through the harvest season.

Whereas the book is being sold at K60,000 per copy, Mlelemba has appealed for more financial support so that the book can reach to a wider audience.

Mlelemba is also the brains behind Big 2 Projects, a project initiated with the mission of training youths in agricultural sustainable ways.
