The Malawi Under-17 National Girls’ Football team coach Linda Kasenda has named a 34-member provisional squad to go into camp in preparation for this year’s Cosafa Under-17 Girls’ Championship.
The team is expected to camp at Anna’s Lodge in Blantyre November 20 ahead of the tournament scheduled for December 4 to 13 in Maputo, Mozambique alongside the TotalEnergies Under-17 Boys Africa Cup of Nations-Cosafa qualifier.
In an interview, Kasenda, who is the Scorchers former captain, said after assessing the players she will name a squad for the tournament.
“We have called many players because we would like to have a look at them. Later, we will trim the squad so that we can focus on those expected to go,” she said.
Kasenda said it was not easy to select the team because of a crop of good players taking up the sport.
Malawi were drawn in group B alongside South Africa, Namibia and Madagascar.
