Youth and Sports Minister Uchizi Mkandawire on Monday described that the engagement of the youth is important in all sectors for the country to achieve the Malawi 2063 agenda.
He said during the opening of a three-day 2024 National Youth Summit, National Youth Council Strategic Plan and Malawi 2063 Youth Engagement Strategy (YES).
Mkandawire told ProjectM that the youths comprises over 50% of Malawi’s population.
Board Chairperson for National Youth Council, Duncan Chiyani said the Strategic Plan is going to be successful because the issues in the plan are from the youths themselves.
“The council is engaging different stakeholders to assist in the implemention,” he said.
Speaking to one of the youths, Stella Mangani said the summit has come at the time, saying it has created a room for the youths to voice out their concerns.
She said the youths has a critical role in the development of the country.
“We are no longer the future leaders, but the current leaders as out inputs are required now and not in future,” said Mangani.
The 2024 National Youth Summit is being celebrated under the theme “Renewed commitment to Youths Development Towards Malawi 2063.”
