Talk to Someone Foundation donated 185 bags of 5kg maize flour valued at K1,125,000 to Queens Hospital Guardian Shelter.
The foundation’s research highlighted the struggles of guardians, mostly accompanying cancer patients, who face food insecurity while caring for their loved ones.
Talk to Someone secretary Ivy Ntope said many guardians travel long distances and opt to sleep at the hospital, often going without meals.
“These guardians need urgent help, resorting to selling firewood for maize flour and soya pieces to survive.”
Maria Wyson, who was one of the beneficiaries, said: “This donation is timely. I had nothing to eat.”
She appealed to the government and stakeholders for sustained support, citing prolonged stays and distant families.
George Musowa, Charity Ambassador at Queen’s Elizabeth Hospital, praised the donation, noting that guardians often receive less attention than patients.
“We urge more well-wishers to support this noble cause.”
Talk to Someone Foundation, an online group, pools resources to aid the needy, having recently assisted families in Machinga District.
