Church of Central Africa Presbeterian (CCAP) Nkhoma Synod says it will distribute foodstuff to over 1,700 housesholds in the Lakeshore district of Salima.
General Secretary for the Synod, Rev. Vasco Kachipapa has confirmed the development.
He said the Synod is concerned with the hunger situation in the country; hence, the decision to reach out to the locals.
Kachipapa told ProjectM that the Synod has sourced K869 million they will use to buy food items for distribution.
“We are going to do the distribution from this month, to March next year,” he said.
According to the General Secretary, the Synod will distribute flour, beans and cooking oil.
In her remarks, traditional leader Salima has thanked the CCAP Synod for considering the communities in her area.
She said the locals had poor harvest because of the effects of climate change.
“We were severely hit by either floods or drought which is still negatively affecting us,” she said.
Mercy Essau said the food aid has come at the time people have nothing to depend upon.
“We had a poor harvest in our gardens which is fuelling the hunger situation,” she said.
The Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee (MVAC) report says a population of 5.7 million needs food.
