TEMWA MAKES ANOTHER RECORD

Temwa TC6 Chawinga last night made history again by becoming the first player in the National Women’s Soccer League to score against all the opponents in a single season.

Temwa scored her 20th Goal on Saturday in her team’s 4-1 win against San Diego Wave FC.

Michelle Cooper opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. Cooper’s shot past San Diego goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan.

Kansas City Current, doubled its goal tally in less than 10 minutes after Cooper dribbled into the box and clipped across but the goal keeper bobboed the ball and it fell in the net for another goal.

Chawinga then came in the 54th minute with a shot that was first offside.

The victory has placed the Current into the second place in the national NWSL standings.

She currently leads the scorers’ chat with 20 goals, 7 ahead of Orlando Pride’s Barbara Banda who is second with 13 goals.

Kerr scored 18 goals in 21 regular-season matches in 2019, averaging 0.87 goals per 90 minutes. The season was 24 games long that year.

The tally puts Chawinga five goals clear of the next leading scorer, the Orlando Pride’s Barbra Banda.

Following Chawinga’s performance, she has become the first player in Africa to achieve such feet.

Just this season, Chawinga has been named best player of the month for consecutive months.

Chawinga’s goal tally is among those of Kim Little of Seatle Reign FC who scored 16 goals, Crystal Dunn of Washington Spirit who netted 15 goals in 2015, Samantha Kerr of NY Gotham who scored 17 goals in 2017, Alex Morgan who scored 15 goals in 2022.

Last year, she clinched the title of the world’s top goal scorer, surpassing renowned players like Ronaldo.

Chawinga netted an impressive 63 goals in all competitions, outshining Ronaldo’s total by nine goals.
