Former FCB Nyasa Bullets Patrick Mwaungulu made a first-time impression as a professional player in DRC when he scored on debut for his team on Saturday to beat Panda 1-0.
The midfielder signed for TP Mazembe with compatriot Lanjesi Nkhoma but were loaned to the second tier league side because DRC giants could not register them because of a two-year Fifa ban.
Both players started for Don Bosco and Mwaungulu made an immediate impact when he scored in the 67th minute.
TP Mazembe representative, who facilitated the deal for both players Felix Ngamanya Sapao, said the youngster is talented.
He said: “Patrick Mwaungulu has a football brain and Lamine Ndiaye, the TP Mazembe coach, has been working on his weaknesses. He only started training with Don Bosco on Tuesday. He was under Lamine until Tuesday.
“The boy is proving himself to be a star in Lubumbashi. Even TP Mazembe President Moise Katumbi, in my last meeting told me that Patrick will be taken to Europe in the next 18 months after he watched him training.”
Sapao also commended Nkhoma for putting up a good performance.
Mzuzu City Hammers, formerly Ekwendeni Hammers, who groomed the player before selling him to Bullets in 2018, are impressed with his exploits.
“Being a club that made him to be where he is, we are very proud of him. It has motivated players here that everything is possible when one works hard,” said the team’s General Secretary Benjamin Thole.
He also said Mzuzu City Hammers benefited from Mwaungulu’s deal to TP Mazembe because they made an agreement with Bullets to get 10 percent in the event they sell him.
Football analyst Kimu Kamau also said it was great for him to start by scoring.
“This is good news for him because it will boost his confidence. It is not easy to score on your debut in a foreign league. We will prove to be a good signing for the club,” he said.
