The Rotaract Club of Lilongwe has made a generous donation of items valued at MWK110,000 to Friends of the Future, an organization that provides counseling and support to patients and guardians at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH).
The donation, which took place on Wednesday, aimed to alleviate some of the burdens faced by individuals in hospitals. The items donated included clothing for males and females of all ages, food staples such as salt, soya pieces, cooking oil, bedsheets, and khobwe.
According to Violet Odala, President of the Rotaract Club of Lilongwe, the club identified Friends of the Future as a worthy recipient after a member’s internship experience at the organization.
“We decided to support their mission by mobilizing resources within and outside our club,” she explained.
Odala emphasized that the donation marked the beginning of an ongoing partnership.
“As a club, we will continue to mobilize resources and provide emotional support to individuals at the hospital,” she added.
Mrs. Else Kumwenda, the person in charge at Friends of the Future, expressed her gratitude to the Rotaract Club.
“It’s heartening to see young people making an effort to support our organization,” she said.
One of the beneficiaries, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed her appreciation for the donation.
“Knowing that I’ll receive help from Friends of the Future during my extended hospital stay brings me great relief,” she said.
Kamuzu Central Hospital serves patients from various districts, many of whom are unprepared for extended stays. Friends of the Future plays a vital role in providing essential items, including clothing and food, to sustain these patients.
In addition to material support, Friends of the Future also receives book donations to cheer up children in the hospital wards.
The Rotaract Club is a global network of young adults dedicated to developing leadership skills, making a positive impact through service projects, and fostering international understanding and friendships. The club has 40 active members.
