Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has released names of the Under-20 National Football Team to start preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations Under-20 Cosafa qualifier to be held in Mozambique later this month.
The team’s coach Bob Mpinganjira has selected a 30-man provisional squad to report for camp on September 9 at the Mpira Village in Blantyre.
Mpinganjira has retained the core of players who led the junior Flames to victory in the Four Nations Under-20 tournament earlier this year.
The coach said it was important to maintain the core of the squad.
“We have to use the squad that we started with in the Four Nations tournament. About 16 players return from the March competition, ready to bring their experience to the upcoming tournament,” he said.
Malawi were drawn in Group C alongside South Africa Comoros and Lesotho.
The tournament is set to take place in Maputo from September 26 to October 5, with the top two teams advancing to the continental finals next year.
FAM communications director Gomezgani Zakazaka said the association has also kept faith in the coaching staff, retaining the panel that guided the team to their recent triumph.
