Qubic Robotics, a digital manufacturing company in Malawi, has disclosed to introduce hands-on training in digital skills for Malawian children to be exposed to new technologies.
Chief Executive Officer for the company Sanga Kanthema has said that the training programme will equip young people with essential skills and knowledge in areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IOT), Coding, Robotic and Machine learning.
He said: “Our goal is to prepare Malawi’s next generation through education for the future, empowering them to succeed and thrive in a rapidly evolving technological landscape just to mention a few. For the past six years, I have been working with Transfer Multisort Elektronik (TME), a Polish-based initiative through which we have trained over 6,000 Young people in Malawi to get advanced in Electronics and Microcontroller Programming. This partnership has significantly impacted technological and innovation growth in Malawi’s industry.”
Kanthena said together with his team, they realised that many young Malawians are not exposed to new technologies at an early age.
“This experience prompted us to launch an academy in Blantyre which is called the AI and Robotics Academy. We are also planning to launch another one in the Capital Lilongwe soon with the goal of introducing advanced technology to young people to thrive in an increasingly digital world,” he said.
The CEO further said that the programme is targeting young participants aged 8 to 16.
He said the programme encompasses a wide range of topics, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Game development, Concept, 3D Printing, Robotics fundamentals, Internet of Things (IOT).
On future plans, the Qubic and Robotics owner has said the company plans to establish a robotics institution that will focus on advanced technologies and hands-on practical training for young Africans.
He said: “We are preparing a workforce that can drive innovation and technological advancements within the country as these skills are crucial for the development of industries such as Manufacturing, Agriculture, Health Care and many more, leading to increased productivity and the creation of new jobs. These academies will help stimulate the growth of tech start-ups and small businesses which can attract foreign investment.”
Established in 2022, Qubic Robotics is bridging the rural- urban divide by introducing the basics of AI and Robotics to empower communities as a way of developing sustainable and advanced manufacturing solutions to accelerate industrialisation in Africa.
