Temwa Chawinga sets a new record in the National Women’s Super League, becoming the first player in NWSL history to score in seven consecutive matches.
Temwa Chawinga scored for the 14th time this year, marking her league-record seventh straight match with a goal, but the KC Current fell 2-1 to the host North Carolina Courage on Sunday.
Chawinga’s goal came in the 62nd minute of the weather-plagued National Women’s Soccer League match at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
Chawinga has broken a record and has surpassed Abby Wambach (2013), Kim Little (2014), Sam Kerr (2018-2019) and Diana Ordóñez (2022) for consecutive regular season games with a goal.
Currently, Chawinga is also the top goal scorer in the National Women’s Super League (NSWL) with 14 goals scored for her club, Kansas City Current surpassing her opponent Zambian Barbara Banda playing for Orlando Pirates with 12 goals tally.
Her contribution has seen Kansas being crowned as the Summer Women’s Cup Champions.
Last year, Chawinga was the world’s goal scorer in 2023 for both her club and country having scored 83 goals in 84 games played with Wuhan Jiang University FC.
She also earned the Golden boot in the 2023 COSAFA women’s cup.
Chawinga joined Kansas City in January this year for a 2 year contract.
