TEMWA’S US CLUB WINS 2024 WOMEN’S CUP

US-based Malawian Women’s footballer Temwa Chawinga’s Kansas City Current have won the World Women’s Club Cup Champions.

This follows a 1-0 victory over Atletico de Madrid at CPKC Stadium in the Women’s Cup.

Chawinga’s club also emerged victorious following the completion of the club’s international Summer of Soccer without a loss.

Midfielder Debinha scored the game winning a goal in the 12th minute following an excellent give and go with forward Temwa Chawinga.

Speaking after the match, Vlatko Andonovski is hoping for more victories.

“I hope this is just the beginning. We want to do more, obviously for the organisation, we want to do a lot more for the community because the support they give us is incredible”, he said.

Following the victory, Kansas City will focus on the National Women’s Soccer League after an Olympic break in which Kansas will face Washington Spirit on 25th August.

Powered by goals from Chawinga and midfielder Debinha, Kansas City also defeated North Carolina 2-0 leading Kansas into the NWSL semi-final.

The Current will also face NJ/NY for a final on 25 October in San Francisco in Texas.

This is Chawinga’s second match since he returned from a leg injury.

Chawinga joined Kansas City for a two-year deal. In 18 games played for the club she has scored 12 goals and won Player of the Month for June.
