Entrepreneur and philanthropist Triephornia Mpinganjira’s business grant hit K30 million after her husband made a surprise K14 million contribution on Tuesday during the selection of the final successful business concepts.
The initiative, dubbed ‘Kuthandiza Omwe Alibe Kuthekera Kupita Patsogolo’ was launched to give a chance to those with brilliant business concepts to receive K1 million.
Writing on her Facebook pages, Triephornia, who is a media influencer and married to business mogul and philanthropist Dr Thomson Mpinganjira said she was excited with the gesture.
She said: “My husband saw me busy trying to identify the best 16 business ideas out of 96,000 applications. I thought he will just help me sort the best 16 as it was easy.
“He said let me add K14 million so that I increase the winners from 14 to 30. I am speechless. Thank you so much hubby. So, there you are guys. The project has hit K30 million. On 30 August, we will have 30 winners, each going home with K1 million.
“Milanzi (her husband clan name) God bless you and thank you for always supporting me.”
The announcement generated 13,000 likes and 7,000 comments on one of her official Facebook Pages with one of the commentators Lawrence Chiwanga appealing to her to make it an annual event, saying: “This is very great news. We need to pray for more grace so this can turn into an annual initiative with potential of moving the winners to a more stable and sustainable millionaire level.”
Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) senior lecturer Dr Tabitha Kayira, who also runs a charity, summed up in two words: “Couple goals.”
Another MUBAS lecturer and innovator, Mayamiko Nkoloma, who runs Imosys technology company, also commended the power couple.
“He who waters others also get watered. May the Lord bless you exceedingly,” he said.
The event will be held at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe.
