Asimenye Simwaka has won a Bronze Medal in the 200m race at the 23rd African Senior Athletics Championship in Douala, Cameroon.
On Tuesday she made it to the semi-finals after crossing the line Tuesday evening on 23.05 seconds.
On Saturday she finished sixth in the final of the 100m race at the just finished senior championship.
Simwaka set a new record after finishing the race at 23:05.
Speaking with ProjectM in an interview Asimenye Simwaka said she is grateful for all the support she got.
“It was a tough one but am very happy to win this Bronze Medal at this big event, I came prepared with positive energy and I dedicated myself to Games with an aim to bring something home. Am also thankful to the Olympic Committee for all the support”, she explained.
In 2022, Simwaka was among the 22 Malawian athletes that represented Malawi at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in England.
During the Commonwealth Games in 2022, Simwaka was the first Malawian athlete to have reached the final of 400m and semi-finals of 200m.
Last year she came fist in 200m and 400m during the World Athletics Championship qualifiers in Gaborone.
