Its all smiles for Faith M’bwana, a 24-year-old, Lilongwe-based chips seller, having been the third beneficiary of Kuthandiza Omwe Alibe Kuthera Kupita Patsogolo Project, courtesy of business mogul and philanthropist Triephornia Mpinganjira initiative.
The wife also to business mogul, Thomson Mpinganjira, launched the initiative two months ago targeting Malawian youths aged between 18 and 35 and were required to submit business ideas with a budget pegged at K1 million. She has received over 38,000 applications.
Speaking in an interview after receiving the cheque M’bwana said she resorted to opening a chiwaya business because she did not have the capital for the business she dreams of.
“I have a plan to run a catering service some day but I did not have funds for that I therefore resorted to starting with this. With this money I will open up four other chiwaya business that will generate me more income to establish the business,” she said.
M’bwana is a holder of Diploma in Biomedical Engineering obtained from Malawi University of Sciences and Technology in 2019, but could not secure a job.
“I started this business because I couldn’t secure a job after graduation. And I am thankful for this initiative because it will help me realise my dream something I wouldn’t have done on my won,” she explained.
In his remarks, Ephraim Nyondo, who presented the check on behalf of Mpanganjira, said their dream is to reduce unemployment through the initiative.
“I am so happy with how this project is progressing. As an initiative, we will continue to support the youth who are business-minded but with no capital so that we help to reduce unemployment levels,” said.
In March, the business mogul also launched a K10 million netball and football leagues in Neno.
