The Malawi National Examinations Board has released results of the 2024 Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) examinations and Junior Certificate of Education (JCE).
According to MANEB Executive Director Professor Dorothy Nampota of the 252,668 candidates that sat for the Standard 8 examinations, 217, 708 have passed, representing 86.1 percent pass rate.
In Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) examinations, 110,002 candidates have passed out of 154,504, representing 71.20 percent.
The top 10 preforming districts are; Zomba Urban, Rumphi, Mzuzu City, Karonga, Dedza, Phalombe, Chitipa, Mulanje, Likoma, Zomba Rural.
Top 10 best performing schools for PSLCE are Mikundi in Mchinji, Chutundu in Dedza, Tendo Private in Lilongwe West, Chimwala in Lilongwe East, Sankhulani Private in Nsanje, Neno Montessori Private in Neno, Kawere in Mchinji, Wongani Private in Mzuzu City, Alipo Private in Blantyre Urban, and Comensoli Girls Catholic in Mangochi.
The top 10 best performing schools for JCE include St Mauritius in Rumphi, Mtendere in Dedza, Ludzi Girls in Mchinji, Lilongwe Girls in Lilongwe City, St Mary’s in Zomba Urban, Karonga St Mary’s Girls in Karonga, Lilongwe Islamic in Lilongwe West, St Kizito Seminary in Dedza, Bakhita in Balaka and Loyola Jesuit in Kasungu.
Meanwhile, Executive Director For Civil Society Education Coalition (CSCEC) Benedicto Kondowe has hailed MANEB for the timely release of examinations with no leakage.
“The job that MANEB is doing is quite commendable especially purposes of fostering examination credibility. Of course the decline should be looked into and addressed,” he said.
He has since advised Ministry of Education to take advantage of MEREP program in order to adress the disparities between Urban and Rural schools.
