Gymkhana Club, is perfect for exploring the old Capital City’s best attractions while offering a rich history within its opulent walls.
It is one of the Country’s iconic and Historic buildings established by a twelve member family around 1889.
In the first place it was run by Government but due to influx in demand by the white people to use the building for various sports disciplines the government of Malawi handed over the facility to people in the year 1923.
Reflecting the historic name of this area, the records are showing that the queen mother of England visited the place in 1964 to present the colors of the Malawi Defense Force (MDF).
This productive settlement has a number of facilities which include; the queens Hall where various entertainments are being performed, Beer Hall, Football pitch and many more.
From the records, the historical place is also known for hosting indoor games which include; pool, Chess and many other activities such as Tennis, Cricket, Golf, Squash, football to say the list.
It is at this enormous monument which is still standing today where one of the first Malawi National football Team matches took place.
Currently the beautifully landscaped historic site is being run by an executive arm of members including the Board of Trustees and it is the membership that keeps running the operations of the facility.
