Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) awarded the 2024 Malawi School Certificate of Education exams best five performers at Mary Mount Girls Catholic Secondary School in Mzuzu.
This marked the 18th edition of the Annual Best Girl Child Awards in which Bahat Kazembe from Providence Girls, Gertrude Chiotha from Lilongwe Girls, Hellen Thombozi from Maranatha Girls Academy, Lindiwe Kachingwe and Bridget Khalika Banda both from Mary Mount Secondary School were lauded for their dedication and resilience, setting a benchmark for their peers.
Each girl received certificates, trophies, and K100,000 from Zodiak and K300,000 from Maranatha Girls Academy in partnership with United Civil Servants Sacco.
Other sponsors, including Hope Investments, Radio Exchange, Small Kloud, and Senza Collection, added further tokens of appreciation from smartphones to laptop bags, cash and perfumes.
Maranatha Girls Academy Managing Director Ernest Kaonga praised Zodiak’s commitment to girls’ education, urging more stakeholders to join such initiatives.
“Empowering girls uplifts the nation,” he emphasized, calling for collective action to inspire and support young women.
Guest of Honour, Colonel Theresa Najira, underscored the critical role of education in shaping future leaders, while another speaker Mwandida Theu encouraged people to see education as a tool for peace and unity.
Martin Simwinga, Operations Manager at Mary Mount, urged students to emulate the top five, reminding them that perseverance fuels success.
As the audience applauded the shining stars of education, one message rang clear: investing in girls’ education creates role models who light the path to a brighter future.
The ceremony was not just a celebration—it was a call to action for a nation determined to nurture its daughters into leaders, innovators and changemakers.
