Mchinji-based progressive young entreprenuer, Daniel Chibwe is helping farmers adopt innovative ways of farming through his farm, Mlatho Farms and agri-learning hub.
The holder of bachelor’s degree in Science in Agricultural Extension is promoting permaculture, manure production and use of natural-oriented pesticides.
At his farm, located at Mchinji Boma, Chibwe demonstrates the effectiveness of permaculture, encouraging biodiversity and efficient water use.
His passion for entrepreneurship dates back two years ago when he noticed the scarcity of jobs.
“That’s when I noticed that through entreprenuership, specifically in agriculture, I can unlock unlimited opportunities,” said Chibwe.
Since its establishment two years ago, Mlatho Farms and agri-learning hub has become a centre for knowledge with farmers visiting from surrounding areas to learn from Chibwe’s expertise.
“My success here is definitely motivating others to adopt sustainable farming practices,” said Chibwe.
He said his vision is to see the country’s agricultural sector thrive and become profitable.
Innocent Kabango, a farmer based at Dzaleka in Dowa and a beneficiary of Chibwe’s expertise has described the knowledge he acquired from the farm as vital.
“Currently, I am implementing what I was taught by him and I must say he was right,” said Kabango.
Chibwe’s exploits have since attracted interest from both local and international development partners with Austrian-based organisation, Permaculture Australia, awarding him a US$2,000 grant this year to help him expand.
