A passion for creating contemporary and exquisite fragrances has led Blantyre-based entrepreneur Monica Hara to launch her own unique brand called Freckkled-Mo.
Freckkled-Mo is a high-quality fragrance created with the belief that everyone deserves a high quality oil based, inspired designer perfume that lasts longer.
Speaking with projectsM, Monica explained that the fragrance is locally made, but it is original since the ingredients used are imported from France and China.
“In order to create a long lasting sensorial moment that lead to memorable fragrances our concentrated oils are directly purchased from the same designer fragrance houses,” she said.
When asked the hidden meaning behind the fragrance, Monica explained that the story behind it is the freckles on her face and Mo from the name Monica.
“My face is conspicuously covered with freckles and the fact that they are visible, people always talked about them and the brand is so significant to me because it gets to remind me of something that people wanted me to be insecure about”, she said.
Monicas’ entrepreneurship journey began from a young age saying the idea of perfume selling business started because of a desire to smell like her mother and luckily at a young age she ended up working at a perfume selling shop.
“I remember as a young girl I wanted to smell like my mother and the desire grew as I grew older, knowing that perfumes are expensive I realized it would take a lot of savings to purchase one. I therefore, had an opportunity to work at some fragrance shop, something that fueled the business idea,” she explained.
Monica further added that the fragrance brand is long lasting, affordable and offers a collection of luxurious fragrances with over 50 types of 50ml bottles to choose from for both male and female.
“Our perfumes are made with high quality ingredients crafted to create scents that last a day. Scent is truly a powerful sense and our aim is to give a chance to every Malawian to be able to purchase the fragrance at a convenient and affordable price,” she said.
Apart from entrepreneurship, Monica is also an English and Mathematics teacher.
She hopes to expand the brand with new products so that she creates jobs for young Malawians.
