World Vision Malawi has donated desks and mattresses to Nsambo Primary School and Kameme Community Day Secondary School (CDSS), respectively.
The donation aims to create a conducive learning environment, minimizing absenteeism and school dropout rates.
“We aim at creating an enabling environment for children, improved access to learning and quality education,” said Hendrix Kalanje, World Vision Malawi Programs Manager for Chitipa and Karonga districts.
“By providing desks and mattresses, we believe children will improve performance, participation, and reduce absenteeism and school dropout rates.”
The donation includes 93 desks, nine tables, and 13 chairs for Nsambo Primary School, while Kameme CDSS received 48 mattresses.
Eluby Chiona, headgirl at Kameme CDSS, commended World Vision for the donation, saying it will boost learning and help girls improve their performance.
“Many girls walk distances to school, resulting in dropout. However, the donation of these mattresses will inspire and motivate girls to remain in school,” Chiona said.
Lusako Mbale, Chitipa District Coordinating Primary Education Advisor, hailed World Vision for the donation, saying it will reduce the desk-learner ratio from 1:45 to 1:3 at Nsambo Primary School.
“The desks will help girls comfortably respond to questions, and the mattresses at Kameme CDSS will ease challenges boys and girls faced, attracting more girls to the boarding and reducing dropout,” Mbale said.
The donation was made under the Kameme Tiwerenge 365 project through the Gift In Kind department.
