World Vision Malawi (WVM) senior leadership team (SLT) on Tuesday visited various projects which WVM is implementing in Mwendanjira area programme (AP) in Traditional Authority Mwenewenya in Chitipa district.
Led by WVM country director Francis Dube, the team assured people in the AP that on top of the already constructed Mwendanjira health post, his organisation will also rehabilitate Sekwa Water Supply System as a means of providing potable water to the community and end waterborne diseases.
He said: “We are impressed with progress of the projects in this new AP which is one year old. Within one year, we have managed to construct a health post, we have drilled four boreholes and provided furniture to Kamilamphande primary school on top of painting the school with print rich and capacitating teachers in teaching and learning using locally available resources (TALULAR).
“But to serve the community better, we will mobilise resources to rehabilitate the water supply system which stopped functioning 10 years ago. Above all, we are impressed with the community structures leadership commitment and dedication in providing land and building materials.”
On his part, T/A Mwenewenya expressed joy with WVM’s interventions which he said have transformed his area.
“We are glad that WVM has constructed a health post here to reduce the 14 kilometers journey to Wenya health center and will also construct one staff member’s house. We will facilitate the construction of an additional staff house so that it should be operational soon.”
“However, we appeal for the rehabilitation of Sokwe Water Supply System which stopped functioning some 10 years ago. This will help many people to have access to potable water,” he said.
In an interview, Chitipa First Grade Magistrate Billy Ngosi who represented Chitipa District Commissioner MacMillan Magomero said the Council will keep on providing technical support to its partners in development.
He said: “WVM’s commitment in this area cannot be overemphasized. They have built a health post which will benefit 677 households and promised to construct a house for a staff member. On top of that, they have given us water here and furniture for Kamilamphande school. As a Council, we will keep on providing technical support for the good of our people”.
Among others, WVM is implementing community engagement and sponsorship in programming, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects and is also supporting vulnerable children as well as capacitating teachers in making of TALULAR centres in Nkhumano Zone.
