The Chigo Home Food Made Mobile Trainer initiative has encouraged women’s participation in food-making training to foster entrepreneurship and business development.
Speaking after a food-making training session at Lilongwe Primary School (LEA) the founder of Chigo home food, Victoria Mwalughali disclosed that it helps to empower every woman to start her own food product business and become financially independent.
She said: “Participating in home food training helps women and girls in various skills on how to make food products at home and start different businesses on their own using the skills they acquired from Chigo Home Food Made”She said.
“The business of food is marketable anywhere, anytime, and nobody can live without food. As I speak, people are eating and buying food for their homes, which shows that food is an important part of everyday life. That’s why we have trained them to make food products like cakes, sausages, and other items.”
Mwalughali added that the initiative aims to equip women with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the food industry. By providing training and support, Chigo Home Food Made Mobile Trainer initiative hopes to empower women to become entrepreneurs and improve their economic status.
One of the participants Alinafe Phulusa, from Nsundwe said this training will help them in their business because it will empower them to be independent and self-sufficient. They will no longer rely solely on their husbands, but instead support each other in their business.
She said: “This training will have an impact on our lives. It will enable us to stand on our own feet. Our husbands will focus on their areas of expertise, while we women will contribute equally, making life better for everyone, she explained.
“Our community benefits through this training will yield good results. For instance, it promotes healthy living through products like yogurt freezes, rich in essential nutrients for our children and community. And also, we will create job opportunities for our youth by engaging them in selling our products, such as freezes, sausages, among others.”
The training engaged women and girls from different districts like Ntcheu, Salima, Dowa and surrounding areas of Lilongwe City.
