In a heart-warming display of community spirit, the “We Are One” WhatsApp group donated assorted items to Mulanje District Hospital on Sunday.
The group, which has been active for over a year, collected contributions totalling K800,000 and purchased essential items such as soap, salt, soya pieces, and cleaning materials, including mops for the hospital.
Sunganani Vinkhumbo, a member of the group, emphasised the importance of helping the less-privileged.
She said: “You don’t need to have a lot to share. We often focus on helping patients, but this time, we wanted to support the hospital staff as well.”
Linette Zikagwa, a hospital representative, thanked the group for their generosity.
“Your visit and donation mean a lot to us,” she said.
One of the beneficiaries, Mumderanji Balakasi, a guardian at the hospital, expressed gratitude and surprise.
“I never thought I’d be among those receiving help,” she said, tearfully. I had lost hope, but this kindness has renewed my faith.”
The “We Are One” WhatsApp group has been supporting the less-privileged across all ages, demonstrating the power of collective action and community compassion.
