Bangula-based resident Billah Karim has donated maize flour to 300 households in Traditional Authority Mbenje in Nsanje valued at K6 million.
He presented the maize flour and soya pieces to the families around Chisamba in Group Villagehead Ntchenyera in the area.
Speaking to ProjectM, Karim said that he decided to give out the foodstuffs because of the current hunger situation.
He said people of Group Villagehead Ntchenyera has less or no land to ply farming activities.
“To the west of the area, there is sugarcane plantation of Kaombe Estate and to the west, lies the Elephant Marsh and Shire River,” he said.
GVH Ntchenyera has hailed Karim for his decision to come to the rescue to the communities in his area.
He said the community should not panic whenever they want to do some agricultural practices in the area.
“Thangadzi stream has changed its flow course which has affected vast land of gardens which are completely covered with sand soil,” he said.
One of the beneficiaries Falesi Jimu is said the food aid has bailed them out for some days to come.
She said people had no food and with this flour and soya pieces thanks to Karim.
“There is hunger and people, in particular women and girls are risking their lives in to get water plants called Nyika in the swamps of the Shire River,” said Jimu.
