TNM Super League rookies Baka FC got a baptism of fire with their 10-0 thrashing of Mighty Mukuru Wanderers on Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
The hero of the day was midfielder Isaac Kaliati who netted half a unit goals with Clement Nyondo registering a hattrick while Gaddie Chirwa and Mischeck Botomani contributing a goal each.
Wanderers did not take time to make their intent to win known as Kaliati drew first blood in the fourth minute and five minutes later, Botomani cushioned the lead to two.
Nyondo scored Wanderers third in the 28th minute scored his second for Wanderers fourth in the 39th minute.
Two minutes after half-time recess, Nyondo completed his hattrick from a penalty spot to extend Wanderers lead to to five.
Baka were accorded a breather until Kaliati reopened Wanderers deluge in the 63rd and 67th minutes for Wanderers sixth and seventh goals.
Two minutes later Gaddie scored Wanderers eighth before Kaliati wrapped the historic triumph with goals in the 76th and 80th minute to take the goal haul to a unit goals.
Kaliati, who was on fourth on the scorer’s chart with nine goals, rose to the top with 14 goals, displacing Kamuzu Barracks’ Zeliati Nkhoma at 12, joint third-placed Mzuzu City Hammers’ Isaac Msiska and George Chaomba of Creck Sporting.
Wanderers coach Meck Mwase applauded his charges, saying determination and hard work paid off.
“We are not looking at the number of goals. What is important is the victory which has taken us closer to league leaders Silver Strikers. I am happy that we were able to use the chances to score goals,” he said.
In another match, Moyale Barracks FC drew 0-0 against Creck Sporting Club at Mzuzu Stadium.
With the result Moyale rose to position six from seven with 29 points from 21 games while Creck have moved to third from fifth last week. They have 31 points from 20 games.
Moyale coach Pritchard Mwansa said they did not play as planned.
“I am not happy with the performance. No clear pattern. We need to work on the mistakes in the next game,” he said.
On the other hand, Creck Sporting club coach McDonald Mtetemera said it was tough game but happy that they managed to collect a point away.
