Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have confirmed caretaker coach Meck Mwase as permanent coach.
In a statement, Wanderers said the confirmation is with immediate effect.
Reads the statement: “Mighty Wanderers Football Club 2021 Limited is pleased to announce the confirmation of Meke Mwase as the Club’s Head Coach with immediate effect. Coach Mwase has been serving as Acting Head Coach since the departure of Coach Nsazurwimo Ramadhan in May 2024. We wish Coach Meke Mwase all the best as he stirs Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC to greater heights.”
The announcement follows Wanderers thrashing of Baka City FC 10-0 in the TNM Super League.
It also follows the team’s late rally to play a catch-up game with the league leaders Silver Strikers.
The FCB Nyasa Bullets and Malawi National Team coach has only lost once 2-1 to Moyale Barracks in a league and Bullets by the same margin in the FDH Bank Cup Round of 16.
Mwase, who was once under pressure to deliver, expressed gratitude for being confirmed.
“God’s time is the best and I thank God for making it possible. I look forward to the challenge.
Wanderers chief executive officer Panganeni Ndovi said the club’s targets remain the same, winning at least two cups as well as a league.
“The targets are the same as when he was interim coach and assistant coach. The ambition has not changed. We have not changed our expectations and we want to ensure that he leads a winning team,” he said.
Former Wanderers general secretary David Kanyenda, who is now a board of director, posted a message, saying Coach ndiyemweyu basi [‘This is the coach we need]’.
A fan also said: “This is our coach. We have welcomed him.”
Mwase will be assisted by the club legend and fan favourite Bob Mpinganjira.
The former Wanderers defender has won 10 matches, drawing two and losing twice in all competitions.
