USI APPOINTED MALAWI’S NEW VICE-PRESIDENT

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has appointed Dr Michael Biziwick Usi as the Vice-President of Malawi with immediate effect.

Dr Usi has replaced the late Dr  Saulos Klaus Chilima who tragically died in a plane crash on June 10.

A statement signed by the Secretary to the President and Cabinet Colleen Zamba has confirmed DR Usi’s appointment.

The statement has further indicated that the Vice-President designate will take his oath of office on Friday 21 June 2024 at Parliament building in Lilongwe.

Dr Usi, who was the running mate to Dr  Chilima during the 2019 general elections, will assume the office for the rest of the current term.

In the past, Dr Usi has also served in cabinet as the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Wildlife as well as serving as the minister of Natural Resources and Climate Change.

Born in 1968, Dr Usi, is an experienced community development practitioner for 27 years.

He is the holder of Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Bedfordshire, obtained in 2018, Masters in International Development from the Andrews University in the United States of America obtained in 2005, Bachelor’s degree in International Development obtained from Andrews University in 2003, Diploma in clinical medicine obtained from Malamulo College of Heath Sciences obtained in 1991, among other education qualifications.

He also found his niche in the creative industry where he is a famous actor known as “Manganya”, a musician and a director of the popular Malawi Broadcasting Corporation Television series known as “Tikuferanji”.

Before joining active politics in 2019, he also served as the country director of Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA).
