A final-year student at Pentecostal Life University (PLU) Caesar Mlenga has started an initiative aimed at uplifting the spirits of patients in public hospitals.
Through his Haircuts for Hope Project, Mlenga provides free haircuts to in-patients to improve their hygiene and restore sense of dignity during their hospital stay.
Speaking in an interview with ProjectM Mlenga said the idea is to help individuals who face numerous challenges while battling illness.
He said: “The simple act of having a haircut can make a world of difference to someone who is unwell or confined to a hospital bed.
“It’s not only about looking better but also feeling better and maintaining a sense of normalcy.
“Many patients, particularly those in public hospitals, are unable to care for their personal appearance due to their health conditions, financial constraints, or the lack of access to barbers. This is a small yet a meaningful way of restoring a patient’s esteem.”
Mlenga and his team of volunteers have worked tirelessly to ensure that patients, who are unable to visit a barber due to their health or financial situation, receive the service they deserve.
Whether bedridden or physically weak, the team ensures that patients, who wish to have a haircut, are accommodated.
One of the impacts of this project is on the patients’ mental and emotional well-being.
Despite the success of the project’s initial phase, he is determined to expand the initiative and reach even more patients in need.
“We are seeking donations to help fund the next phase of this project. The support from the community will allow us to reach more hospitals and patients across the country, making a tangible difference in their lives,” said Mlenga.
The Haircuts for Hope Project is a heartwarming example of how one person’s compassion and initiative can make a lasting difference in the lives of those in need.
