A 20-year-old University of Malawi student Kondwani Chikaonda has developed a mobile application called “Drive Me App” that enables online taxi bookings, especially during emergencies.
“This app is an exceptional tool that will provide commuters with easy access to a more convenient travel experience.
“By introducing online web bookings, we are creating solutions to some of the challenges faced by our communities.”
Pursuing a Bachelor’s of Sciences in Computer Sciences, Chikaonda hails from William 1 Village, Traditional Authority Bvumbwe in Thyolo District.
“We have taken the tech world by storm with Drive Me App, a technological marvel with potential to drive digital transformation and economic development,” said Chikaonda.
The app allows users to search for nearby drivers and send requests using their mobile phones. Chikaonda invested considerable time and financial resources into the project.
He noted: “Accessing online resources and utilities comes with added costs, and time management is a significant challenge.
“Balancing academic work and personal projects is a hard nut to crack.”
Chikaonda plans to expand his company, Itech 360 Systems, providing software and hardware services to individuals and businesses.
“We will focus on developing apps that simplify daily tasks and improve communication globally,” he said.
To future innovators, Chikaonda said: “Dedicate your time to discovering your passions, honing your talents, and focus on becoming the best version of yourself.”
Innovation enthusiast Lloyd Loyal Banda from LUANAR hailed the app as a game-changer for Malawi’s transportation sector.
